Eleedsen-Lebkuchen tins



Lebkuchen (German Gingerbread) are another truly festive German Christmas treat! They are soft, full of flavour and as we add no wheat flour they are so wonderfully moist. The only British treat we can compare them to is a spiced gingerbread. Our Eleedsen-lebkuchen however is bursting with nuts and luxuriously covered in dark chocolate. The translation is slightly misleading as they don’t contain much ginger. Due to the high nut content and lack of flour they are also much softer and more sumptuous than British gingerbread.

If you are familiar with the German town of Nuremberg, then you might know that Elisen-lebkuchen are the town’s best-kept Christmas secret. Bloom Baker Lisa hails from Nuremberg and her recipe produces as good a biscuit as any that you will find in Germany! Such a delightful treat! And they make the perfect Christmas gift. Especially since they come in a highly decorative tin this year. The beautiful image featuring Oakwood Clock was designed by 12 year old Esther Lowe of Roundhay School.

Lebkuchen Ingredients

Eggs, mixed peel (orange peel (42%), glucose-fructose syrup, lemon peel (16%), sugar, acidity regulator (citric acid), preservative (sulphur dioxide)), ground hazelnuts, ground almonds, dark chocolate (cocoa mass, sugar, milk fat, cocoa butter, emulsifier (soya lecithins), flavouring) OR icing sugar, brown sugar, honey, cinnamon, wafer (wheat flour, starch), cardamon, nutmeg, cloves, star anise, salt.
